Here's a classic brownie recipe that yields rich, fudgy brownies with a crackly top:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional, for extra richness)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) chopped nuts (optional, like walnuts or pecans)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch (23x23 cm) baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the melted butter and sugar in a medium-sized mixing bowl until well combined. The mixture should be smooth.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture. Beat until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the brownies tender.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and/or nuts if you're using them.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Be careful not to overbake; this keeps the brownies fudgy.
  9. Cool the brownies in the pan on a wire rack before cutting them into squares.

Tips:

  • For an extra fudgy texture, reduce the baking time slightly and let the brownies cool completely before cutting.
  • For a more cake-like brownie, you can add an extra egg and increase the baking powder to 1/2 teaspoon.

Enjoy your delicious, homemade brownies!
